WWDC Keynote – OSX Mountain Lion Details

From it’s premier in March 2011, which hardly ran on my G3 PowerBook Wall Street model, to the latest incarnation Lion, OSX has changed desktop computing. It’s fast, secure, and it keeps getting better. So what can we expect from the latest release, “Mountain Lion”, due next month?

  1. Deeper iCloud integration - The example they gave was someone updating a Pages document, only to have it update on the Mac within five seconds.
  2. Updated Notes and Reminders – So you can keep pretending to be organized.
  3. Messages – Talk to people on their iPhone, iPod, iPad… Anywhere. One messaging system for all platforms.
  4. Notification Center - Uninstall Growl cause the new notification center a la iOS will keep you up to date with the information that matters.
  5. Power Nap – Your Mac updates itself even while it’s sleeping. Magic.
  6. Dictation – I will believe a decent talk-to-text when I see it!
  7. Sharing – Share everything to everywhere. Websites to emails to pictures. Go nuts.
  8. Baked in Twitter and Facebook - Share like crazy. Come on. Your accounts will save in your Mac’s preferences.
  9. AirPlay Mirroring – With your AppleTV what’s on your Mac can be on your HDTV. Wirelessly.
  10. Game Center – Now your Mac plays nice with your iPhone and iPad game stats.
  11. Gatekeeper – Makes downloading and installing apps from all over the web faster and more secure.
  12. Safari - A unified search/URL field, speed improvements, Reading List – offline reader, faster JavaScript.
